Is Voicemail Dead, or is it Making a Comeback?
How often do you use voicemail? Never?
Not surprisingly, many people do not use their voicemail. As a result, many phone companies are considering to cut the service all together due to low subscriptions and the high cost of having an unused service running.
Can we blame them?
With voicemail, you had to call your personal number, add the security code, wait for the monotone robot to painstakingly read the number that called you, then listen to the actual voicemail just to find out it was a wrong number or worse – they hung up.
Now-a-days, we have texting. Texting is a great tool because you send a quick text and then you simply wait for a reply. No logging in, to monotone robots reading anything to you, no listening to phones hanging up. Even better, you have to say what you need to say in 140 characters or less. In addition, you can even send multimedia messages to your coworkers, friends, or family.
But is texting the answer? Is it the most professional way to go about your business? No, there is a another way. It looks like voicemail is not going to go down without a fight. This “last-stand” of voicemail is Visual.
Visual voicemail is a rather new service that a lot of phone companies are offering to their customers. Companies such as T-Mobile, At&t, and Verizon offer the service.
So what is so great about Visual Voicemail?
A whole lot! With visual voicemail, you still have to log in (protection) however you can see what numbers called you. Even better, you can choose which voicemails you would like to listen to. You can play, pause, rewind, or skip all together. All, without the monotone robot.
How does this beat texting?
When is comes to professionalism, texting cannot do a whole lot for you. It is awkward when you get a text from a stranger or a “business” contact unless you have developed that type of relationship. With visual voicemail, you are able to leave a professional welcome message which gives you great representation, and then call who you need to call back when it is convenient for you.
So you have desktop phones?
No worries, with the power of the cloud, you can switch your PBX into an all powerful hosted PBX which will also give you the added benefit of additional bonuses. Rather than having to call your “Audix,” you can pull up a dashboard and see all the voicemails that you have for each agent or for your company. You have total control of your business communications – now that is professional.
